Riverside Archers News Teller
Updated 07/04/09
So far this year we have had some great shoots. Lately we have a lot of members helping out. We still need to get help on shoot days as the same people have been working the shoot for the last three months. Some of these members would like to be able to shoot also. So please feel free to step in and help. For those that have helped, thank you.
I would also like to thank all of you that showed up to the Club Challenge and helped us keep the trophy from Mojave once again.
Hunting season is here. Keep your skills sharp and bring home the game. I would love to see all of your hunting pictures. If anyone has any ideas for upgrades to the range, please feel free to give me a call.
Well it's been a great 1/2 year that just flew by like a F-22 Raptor. Our club has done a remarkable job with the upkeep and maintenance of the entire range, thanks to all who donated their time and material.
I want to apologize for deserting the club for the six weeks that I had company from the great state of Alaska, I had a wonderful time.
We only have about six or seven more shoots left before we start all over again, lets make them all better shoots than the last one. I would also like to thank Gordon Eno, Wayne Murray, Russ Harrelle for all the work they did repairing many of our 3-D targets, it was a lot of work well done. Ronnie Gilman, I love ya man, has done an outstanding job as our cook and food supply man. We should take over for him so he can shoot his bow a couple of times this year. Ronnie just don't forget to bring your bow next time!
As the clubs EXCREMENT & TRASHMAN I can't believe what lousy shots archers are. My back can't take all that stooping to pick up cans and plastic that some people, who think that they're basketball players, miss their pockets and just leave these items all over the range, Pak it in- Pak it out, please. If you see trash on the range don't walk by it. Please pick it up and throw it in one of the locked trash cans so the animals won't spread it all over. Thank you.
We have a great bunch of archers in our club and I'm proud to be associated with each and every one of you. I'd like to call on all of you archers that have made themselves scarce to come back and enjoy the sport that you love so much.
This year we tried to get sponsors back that we had last year to repeat but because of the sad state of our economy some just couldn't do it. Hopefully when things get better they'll come through later.
Well I think I'll shut up now and let someone else bore you with other more important things.
Our (25) - target 3D shoots for the summer have gone over well even though we have a limited area for set-up. People enjoy the (2) arrows and less walking during the hot summer months. We have a Raccoon Shoot scheduled on Saturday night July 25th. The Raccoon Shoots are really different shooting with flashlights at night. It's just a lot of fun so mark your calendar and plan to attend.
The flyers are completed for August through November and are posted on the website. Please print them out and help with the advertisement for the club.
The new Rinehart 3D's are holding up much better and present some new type targets ( Jack-A-Lope, Frog, Dinosaur, Bedded Elk, Boar). We are in the process of purchasing HI-Techs used 3D's. The price is good and they will give us the repair material to fix them up. This should give us 3D's to put out on the range for daily use by club members.
We need to be thinking about next years (2010) schedule. We will have to do the schedule in July so we can have it into CBH by the middle of August. Once the schedule is completed it is almost impossible to make any changes in the CBH News. I will do the new schedule and send it to all of the officers for corrections or changes before sending it on to CBH News.
The first six months of this year has been very successful for Riverside Archers. The Jungle shoot was a huge success bringing in approximately 125 shooters. This is the first marked yardage tournament of the year. Thirty targets two arrows each. Our next marked yardage tournament is December 6, 2009.
Our night raccoon shoot last March was so successful that we added an additional night raccoon shoot on July 25.
Our annual toughman shoot last March was challenging and fun, each year we've increased the team entries. Congratulation to the members who set up and worked the event.
We added ten new 3D's to our inventory. We purchased some McKenzie and Rinehart targets. The largest being a bedded Elk and the smallest being a frog. Approximately six older targets have been removed from inventory and put out for broad head targets. Speaking of Broad heads, we now have a broadhead practice area behind the 3D storage trailer. Our inventory is approximately 54+. Some of these target were purchased by our sponsors. Check out and support our sponsors on our website.
I would like to thank the members who have helped on a regular basis repairing the 3D's. Devon Hutchens, Kyle Emerson, Robert Robinson, Russ Harrell, Tom Halen and Wayne Murray. Thanks to those who help prepare for each of our tournaments.
A special welcome aboard to all new Members who joined the club over the past six months. Thanks for become a member of a great club and for your participation in our pre tournament work parties and work parties in general.
One more item, remember our range is a nature preserve, it is a privilege to be on the range, not a right. What you pack in, please take out with you. Stick to the approved areas and trails. The club appreciates your support in keeping the range clean and complying with the county requirements.
This year I am proud to announce that we will be holding our first "charity shoot" to be held at our marked yardage shoot on December 6, 2009. The theme of our shoot will be called "Shoot 4 Life".
Each year we will be sponsoring a child who is suffering from a life threatening illness and needs financial help. When a child is ill the whole family suffers and sacrifices to pay medical bills, etc. The child or teen will be chosen from the City of Hope or CHOC hospital unless a member has someone meets the above criteria.
This year we will be sponsoring a beautiful, enthusiastic role model by the name of Nicole Schulz. Nicole lives in Norco and is the former Miss Norco who just graduated from high school this year. Unfortunately, Nicole is battling her second round of Leukemia. She fought this cancer when she was 15 and has been in remission until she was rediagnosed in April. As you can imagine, this family has a lot of medical bills from before and it is now being hit once again.
Nicole has just been admitted for her 2nd round of chemo. She does have a 100% donor match and will undergo her second bone marrow transplant on August 3, 2009. She will be admitted about 7 days before the transplant to take down her immune system and she will remain there for 100 days after that!
We want to make this shoot HUGE!! We will be donating profits from the shoot registration and the raffle to Nicole and her family to help pay some bills and have a joyful Christmas. I am looking for volunteers to help with this shoot as well as donations for the raffle. Any and all donations are welcomed and appreciated. If you would like to volunteer and/or donate raffle prizes, please feel free to contact me at any time. You may also contact another committee member which includes Stacey Brown, Tritia Roth, Kathy Mora, Ronnie Gilman, Jennifer Lewis and Devin Davies.
Thank you again and remember, let's get the word out for this awesome event!
For those that haven't heard yet, I am your new game keeper! My name is Bret Scott. I've been a member of Riverside Archers for many years. I am also a member of Broken Arrow, Oranco, CBH, and Pope & Young. I am also a measurer for CBH and Pope & Young.
I have modified the rules a little bit to make the hunting contest fair for everyone. You can pick up a copy at the monthly meetings.
You can submit your entries in person at the meetings, or you can call me to meet, or e-mail me. The info is on our web site. Please submit your best pictures so we can archive them in a photo album for everyone to see. If you are taking digital pics, you can email them to me, please don't print them out on regular paper! I need photo quality paper so that it will last in our album! I will take all pictures! They can be success photos, field photos, scouting photos, etc. Even if you have small game or fish bring it all in, It's always fun for everyone to share in your adventure thru your photos.
Big game season is fast aproaching! July 11th is the opener of A-zone deer, And most of the northern units will open on Aug 15th for deer and bear. Check your regs for your specific zone!! I was also told starting this year you can buy your bobcat tags from your local licensing agent, you don't need to send off to fish and game.
Remember our range is closed to hunting (walk around your friendly rattlesnakes).
Good luck this hunting season, I look forward to many entries!!
I would like to thank the members that have volunteered to help with the cooking at the shoots. It is a lot of work, but, I've been hearing a lot of great comments about our food so we need to keep up with the good cooking. However, it does take some help. We now have the hotdog cart so that takes another 2 members to run and we need at least 3 for the cook shack at the shoots. So any volunteers would really help the club out. In addition, working the cook shack counts as double points toward your work requirements for the year so you could get your hours knocked out pretty quick. If anyone would like to volunteer please call or email me. My contact information is on our website.
Thanks Everyone
